Crawler cranes earn their keep on long-duration jobs and heavy lattice work. Once assembled, they’re cheaper to keep on a site for weeks or months than to demob and remob a wheeled crane. They also pick-and-carry — meaning they walk loads — which AT and RT cranes cannot.

Plan crawlers early. Mobilization is multi-load:

Typical mob window is 5–7 days from order to operational on a prepared site, plus assembly time on arrival.
Frequently asked questions
When should I rent a crawler crane instead of an all-terrain?
Crawlers are better when you need: pick-and-carry capability (lifting while moving), long-duration on a single site (days to months), heavy lattice-boom configurations for maximum capacity, or when ground conditions favor tracked travel over tire travel. Crawlers walk under load; ATs cannot.
Can crawler cranes pick and carry?
Yes — that's one of the primary advantages. Crawlers can lift a load and walk it across a prepared surface, which is essential for some wind, power, and modular construction work. ATs and RTs cannot do this safely.
How are crawlers transported?
Crawlers do not travel under their own power on highway. They ship disassembled — tracks separated from the carrier, boom in sections, counterweights as separate loads. Mobilization typically runs 4–10 truckloads.
How long does a crawler take to assemble on site?
Assembly takes 2–5 days depending on size and configuration. Once assembled, a crawler is usually expected to stay on site for the duration of the project.
